South Maui's Future

I moved to Maui way back in 1994 from the San Francisco Bay area. I remember meeting an older Japanese gentleman at this mall called Azeka's. I had just found this plate lunch call short ribs. As you may or may not know, that guy was Bill Azeka and the food put out by that little restaurant was as they say, broke da mouth. We had a conversation about Kihei and he told me back in the early 70's you could buy an acre of land in Kihei for about $500. If only time travel was possible. Fast forward to 2022, I'm several years older and have way more gray hair. This brings me to how South Maui has changed and will change. The South Maui Community Plan Advisory Committee will hold its first meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the Lokelani Intermediate School cafeteria at 1401 Līloa Drive, Kīhei. The event kicks off the next phase of the South Maui Community Plan update. Here's a link to the website so you can check out the draft before the meeting: WE ARE SOUTH MAUI.
