The fires have exacerbated the existing housing crisis in Maui, where there is a high demand and a low supply of properties. The fires have also affected the rest of the island, as more people are looking for housing outside of Lahaina. This may increase the competition and the prices for homes in other areas of Maui, such as Kihei, Kahului, and Upcountry. The fires may also deter some tourists and investors from visiting or buying properties in Lahaina, which could hurt the local economy and culture. The recovery process for Lahaina and its residents will be long and challenging, as they will need to rebuild their homes and their lives. They will also need more assistance and support from the government, the lenders, and the community to overcome this tragedy.

The rest of Maui is starting to recover. Shops and restaurants which closed because of the fires are starting to reopen. I drove down South Kihei Road yesterday and there were tourist surfers at the Cove. The Kamaole beaches were busier then I've seen in quite a while. And Costco was packed. After saying all of that, there are thousands of rental cars parked in the fields surrounding the airport.
